Auto Injury & Medical Massage

Massage Therapy Is Covered By Your Insurance When You Have Been In a Car Accident

If you were injured in an auto accident and have automobile insurance, your expenses to see a complimentary alternative health care practitioner are covered, even if the accident was your fault. This coverage allows you to be treated for your auto accident related injuries with a simple referral from your chiropractor or medical doctor.

Even a minor car accident can have major effects on your health for years to come if you don’t seek out the correct care.

It is not uncommon for car accidents to cause you muscular pain, headaches, even arthritis that can be very difficult to get rid for for years to come if not treated correctly.

Whiplash injury to the neck, or cervical sprain/strain, is by far the most common injury that results from a car accident. Sprains and strains are referred to as soft tissue injuries (soft tissue includes muscles, tendons, and ligaments) and occur when the head is abruptly jerked back and forth. Muscles and ligaments can be injured.

Immediately after a car accident, medical massage therapy can help you recover by helping to restore balance to your autonomic nervous system – i.e., the relaxation benefits of massage can help reverse the effects that the shock and trauma of a car wreck can have on your nervous system. Medical massage also promotes circulation of both blood and lymph, which can help manage the swelling (edema) that usually comes with auto accident injuries. During the sub-acute stage (a few days to a few weeks, or even longer, after the accident), medical massage can help maintain and improve range of motion and may help prevent the formation of scar tissue and other myofascial adhesions. Later in your recovery, medical massage can address specific musculoskeletal injuries like whiplash, neck pain, back pain, headaches, shoulder sprains/strains, etc.

Medical massage is a term that refers to special techniques used when massage is part of the overall treatment of medical problems stemming from trauma to the body. This form of massage is often, but not always, done under the instruction of a physician in the case of work-related injuries or auto injuries and focuses on addressing the affected area(s). As your therapist, I will conduct a thorough health intake during each massage session and develop a treatment plan to provide you with the most appropriate treatment for your injury. I will document progress and work closely with other health care providers to provide you with the best care. Your massage may include advanced myofascial techniques, craniosacral therapy, deep tissue techniques, relax and contract techniques and post-isometric relaxation techniques on the affected muscles and joints. In accordance with UCR (usual, customary and reasonable) fees this service is available in 15 minutes increments at a rate of up to $40.00 per unit and is based on actual time spent on behalf of the client.

If you have recently been injured on the job or suffer from an auto injury relating to a car/bike accident you may be eligible to receive massage, acupuncture and chiropractic care for up to one year from the date of your injury and at no out of pocket cost to you. An initial exam from a doctor or chiropractor, complete with a prescription, is required to receive coverage for massage services. I am happy to provide billing services for treatment with the necessary documentation. This includes a prescription for treatment, claim number, date of injury and insurance company contact information.
